Biggest Loser ...Again?..well , maybe

Ok, it started. I haven't been able to get through a whole season since the girl who was an opera singer won. I don't like the drama and the game aspect. I wish they would focus more on the initial nutritional training and the contestants' struggles with following the diet plan. I think the show misses the mark in not showing how the contestants are really adjusting to the diet and the journaling and the inner work they are doing. We get either super sensitive pseudo therapy, crazy food challenges, or hard ass training. And in the first episode, we get Tears and vomit.

And speaking of the trainers. Yea, the audience wants to see the trainers yell at the contestants. Jillian throws a hissey fit. Bob's southern accent, hipster glasses and tat sleeves. And then there is Dolvett. I think Dolvett would be a great trainer for me. Really.

Anyway, I'm interested to watch because of the childhood obesity aspect this season. 3 kids are on the show as 'ambassadors'-they will participate but not get weighed and not get voted off. Kudos to the show for doing this. I was an obese kid. I was picked on and bullied and super shy and could have used a Biggest Loser show. I'm glad it's on television and may inspire some other kids.

I'll keep watching for a while till the heavy game play starts. The idea of going off to a ranch and just focusing like heck on diet and exercise sounds great and would definitley result in a weight loss. But quick fixes don't work and like so many of the contestants , I'd probably go home and get way off track. And another gripe, I wish the trainers and the show would address how so many of the show's contestants later admitted to doing crazy things to make the weight for weigh-in. What about the regains and trouble adjusting to the real world?

Ok, I may have too many gripes to watch this show. I watched it on Dvr so there were no commercials really. And, I know it's editing, but it just didn't seem right about the first two contestants who were put off the ranch. Maybe I wont watch. At least, there is Downton Abbey again.

Best Jillian quote of the first episode
"Every single step is a choice!"

  1. I am hearing and reading so many people echo the same feelings you have about TBL. I feel the same way. I want to know how sore they are the next day after their workouts (you know they are SO SORE!) and how they deal with it being forced to workout every single day. I want to know the nitty gritty details of what they are REALLY told behind closed doors about foods, nutrition, macronutrients, ratios, hormones, calories...all of it. I have had it with the game play and voting off. The three children are fantastic. I didn't expect to feel that way but lord have mercy they are three just exquisitely beautiful souls. The oldest girl -- she is so smart, well-spoken...it's not hard to see -- i just see her doing really wonderful, great things in the future, making a difference. Now about Downton Abbey...I just finished The Tudors and fell in LOVE. I'm considering Downton Abbey now...worth it???

  2. Thanks on your insights about BL..EXACTLY! Downton Abbey is very entertaining, eye candy, and I'm totally hooked as so many people are. Definitely worth it.

  3. I've never watched it, but after reading what you say about it today and in the past, I think I'll give it a try. I was large (tall) and overweight as a youngster too... That part interests me.
